Autumn Weekend in the Adirondacks

The Adirondack mountains are a welcome respite from the fast paced, noisy, constantly bombarded everyday world we all live in day in and day out. That seems to be the case even more today than ever.

Do we even have to wonder why so many more people are escaping to the mountains, to get closer to and connect with nature? The calm serenity of the wind blowing through the colorful leaves, the songbirds singing as you walk along the path that used to be an old road, the quiet conversations being held with your family or friends as you experience this quiet time together. Nothing restores the soul like a walk or hike in the fall. You don't have to fight the heat or battle with the bugs, and the summer crowds have diminished. Granted there are a few more "leaf peepers" out there, but very few take the time to get out of their vehicles and walk among the trees.

The tension seems to melt away as we watched two doe cross the path and continue to eat the greenery while they still can before winter sets in. They are so close we feel like we could reach out and touch them! The lake was so peaceful, and the sounds of the forest were welcoming to our ears. Just getting out and walking in the sunshine boosted my spirit and cleared my mind.

I love being near the streams and lakes this time of year. They are the life blood of the mountains, constantly pulsing as the waves hit the shore and the water flows through the brooks and streams like the veins of our bodies. The reflections of the forest just double the enjoyment we get from viewing this beautiful fall foliage.

I hope you all have a chance to get out and recharge your batteries in this beautiful, natural world. Enjoy the little moments in life and don't sweat the small stuff because when it comes down to it, it's all small stuff

Happy hiking and photographing! Get out there and capture great light!

Ever since I can remember, from growing up as a small child in mid-state Maine, to walking around in the fields and woods of upstate New York, I have loved being outdoors.  With the Adirondack Mountain Park practically in my backyard, I love being able to take the canoe up to one of its many lakes and enjoy the beauty, serenity and peace of the mountains.  About 20 years ago, my grandmother handed me my first SLR camera, an old Minolta that was used for shooting weddings, and I was hooked!

Now I had the ability to photograph nature and landscapes, allowing me to share the imagery and feeling of being in remote and beautiful places.  Technology has come a long way since then, and I no longer shoot film, but the digital technology has helped to fuel my passion even more!  I primarily photograph in the Adirondacks, although I also love photographing in New England and traveling to many of the National Parks in the United States.

My goal is to capture the light, the essence of being in nature and to share that with the world.

I am currently working on a project to shoot all of the seasons in the Adirondacks and to create a calendar for next year.  I hope to see you out there!
